Take a Bow
National EMS Awards of Excellence program shines the spotlight on you
ONE OF THE things I most look forward
to at EMS World Expo each year is
meeting the recipients of the National
EMS Awards of Exellence.
These agencies and individuals
have huge accomplishments under
their EMS belts, yet remain some of
the most humble folks I've met, and
constantly praise other colleagues,
peers, mentors and friends as being
part of their success.
Last year I was particularly pleased
to award the Dick Ferneau Paid EMS
Service of the Year sponsored by Ferno
to New Orleans EMS. The award
acknowledged the impact Katrina
had on the agency and how it still
shapes NOEMS' circumstances.
"The main thing people should know,"
says Jeffrey Elder, MD, the service's
director and medical director, "is that
none of this would have happened if
not for our people working the streets
every day. We know it gets hard out
there, and without them we wouldn't
be anywhere. That's the key to the
success of this whole operation."
Acknowledging the efforts of the
people on the streets is key to our
awards program, as you make the
difference every day.
Award recipients receive a monetary award, three core program registrations, plus $1,100 for travel and
